Looking for some good news to lift your spirits as we watch another month go by while in the midst of a crazy pandemic and even crazier presidential politics? Look no further!
SLO REP has just received a generous $20,000 gift from Mary L. Bianco and The MOCA Foundation in support of our Academy of Creative Theatre (ACT) educational programs during the 2020-2021 Season! ACT’s class curriculum has been completely revised and reimagined in this unprecedented time in order to be socially-distant, open and safe per state and county standards for Covid-19. This gift from Ms. Bianco and The MOCA Foundation supports additional teachers and staff needed to create and run the program as well as equipment and supplies for the required social-distancing and safety protocols.
But that’s not all! In addition to this incredible $20,000 gift, The MOCA Foundation has issued a challenge for our community of supporters to step up and match this $20,000 grant in order to keep SLO REP and ACT going strong during our “unexpected intermission”. You can find out more about the challenge and make a donation on our website HERE.
“While we are not able to stage performances in this space at the present time, small, socially-distanced enrichment activities, camps and classes for children are allowed and encouraged with strict safety protocols in place. We are grateful for this challenge gift from Mary and The MOCA Foundation that has made these programs possible. Our goal is to continue to expand and strengthen this incredible program and maintain our infrastructure while our performances are paused, so that when SLO REP reopens, we are stronger than ever on all fronts, both in our performances and in our expanded educational programs.” — Kevin Harris, Managing Artistic Director
ACT programs are designed as a continuum of experience for young artists of all ages. These redesigned, socially-distant classes are limited to eight students per class, segmented by age and experience level, and are taught by two professional teaching artists per class. Generous tuition scholarships are available so that every child with a desire to participate may do so. Registration for our second Fall Session of Theatre Classes are open NOW and classes begin on October 12th. Click HERE for more information and to sign-up for class.
“Whether your child is an experienced ‘theatre-kid’ or a shy beginner, ACT is the place to train, create, play, and learn. Obviously, things are going to be a bit different this year, and we’re all doing our best to adjust to our ‘new normal.’ But thanks to Mary Bianco and The MOCA Foundation, we are excited to offer an expanded program of creative and challenging theatre classes throughout this fall, winter and into the spring.” – Kerry DiMaggio, Education Director
So, if your child is tired of being stuck in front of a screen all day, get them out of the house and into the ACT this fall! And while you’re at it, you can also help SLO REP meet the MOCA Challenge by making your donation today!
Will you help us meet the MOCA Challenge?
Your contribution, in the amount that’s right for you, will help SLO REP come roaring back again as soon as it is safe to do so. We so appreciate your support as we look forward with hope to the day when the show WILL go on once again. We’ll be back soon. We promise. Thank YOU for sticking with us.
