AUDITION DETAILS
First round of auditions are by appointment, October 10 (10:00 am–2:00 pm).
Callbacks are by invitation, October 11 (9:00 am–12:00 pm). Callback invitations sent Saturday evening.
PRODUCTION DETAILS
Rehearsals: October 25–December 20, 3–4 afternoons/evenings per week; December 27–January 14, every afternoon/evening (except December 31–January 2). Some rehearsal conflicts can be accommodated.
Production dates: January 15–24. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings; Saturday and Sunday matinees.
Tuition: $725. Scholarships and payment plans are available.
Content note: Number the Stars is set during the Holocaust and includes references to Nazi occupation, wartime danger, death, and family separation. These themes will be handled thoughtfully during rehearsals and performances, but parents should use their best judgment as to whether the show is right for their student. During the German occupation of Denmark in World War II, the Nazis closed down Jewish-owned businesses and began to round up the Jews for relocation to concentration camps. Danish freedom fighters of all ages risked everything in daring, hurried attempts to rescue the country’s Jewish population. In this stirring play, young Annemarie and Kirstie Johansen face soldiers, interrogations, fierce dogs, personal danger, the loss of loved ones, and their own fears as they try to help their friend Ellen Rosen escape across the ocean to Sweden and safety. A story of courage, faith, ingenuity, and love. All the drama, pathos, adventure, terror, and humor that have made Number the Stars a national best seller (and winner of the Newbery Award and the American Library Association Book of the Year Award) come to life in this powerful adaptation.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Weston Scott — Show Director and ACT Instructor
Weston Scott is a playwright and director whose works include TINDERELLA (TBA Finalist, BATCC Nominee), SHOSHANA IN DECEMBER (NEA ArtWorks Recipient), GO FURTHER (Stage Partners), JELLYBELLY (Gerbode Award), and ODYSSEUS DIES AT THE END (Uproar Theatrics). He completed a Directing Internship at PCPA and recently helmed the one-man ASSASSINS at Oakland Theater Project. He has developed new work with Orchard Project, Z Space, FaultLine Theater, Custom Made Theatre Co., Shifted Lens Theatre Company, Central Coast Shakespeare Festival, Stumptown Stages, and PianoFight. Wes is a Resident YouthStage Director at Berkeley Playhouse, and the Resident Playwright of Exit Pursued by a Bear.
