In this incendiary comic drama, the world of high finance is illuminated in a blisteringly funny and brutally honest way. Rick Hannel, the CEO of an enormous private equity firm, needs a deal to come through to save him from a PR disaster. Thankfully Seth, one of his partners has the perfect investment in the form of a small luggage company ready to grow. But Jenny, Rick’s other partner has her own plan to right the ship.
A funny, sleek and well-told parable told from the finance-sector’s point-of-view about why money so often trumps humanity in a capitalist society. This may not be the world we want to live in, but it’s the world we have.

About Ubu’s Other Shoe & Staged Readings
A staged reading is a form of theatre without sets or full costumes and props. The actors read from scripts, sometimes using music stands. They may be seated, stand in fixed positions, or incorporate minimal stage movement.
SLO REP’s staged reading series is named after the infamous trilogy of plays written by Alfred Jarry (Ubu Roi) that were banned from the stage after riots erupted on opening night. Ubu’s Other Shoe pays homage to the spirit of Jarry and to all artists who strive to explore the fringes of their art. This exciting series exists to offer actors, directors and audience members an opportunity to experience incredible plays that do not necessarily fit into our regular main stage season. Thank you for taking this journey with us.
a sharp play by Sarah Burgess about the precarious intersection of politics and modern finance. With biting wit and shrewd insight, Burgess pulls back the veil on private equity and gets to the bottom of why it is so especially loathed.
…lacerating…nuanced…Burgess conveys not just the language of the high-stakes game she depicts—financial jargon is woven nimbly into the snappy dialogue—but also the differing mindsets of its players…extraordinarily timely.

The equity traders in Sarah Burgess’ frighteningly funny play…converse in the private jargon of the financial industry…[DRY POWDER makes] this dry subject enthralling and horrifying.
